Typically, the process takes 6–12 months. The most time-consuming milestones for your clinic are often the construction, obtaining the necessary lab credentialing, and successfully interfacing the lab results with your existing practice management or Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

How much physical space is truly needed for an in-house lab?

The space required primarily depends on the anticipated volume of specimens your lab will process per year. Higher volumes necessitate more equipment and staff, demanding more operational space to ensure the delivery of quality results.

We partner with both quality used and new equipment dealers to find the right solution, recognizing that a one-size-fits-all approach does not work when selecting specialized lab equipment.

EMVE Sciences has extensive experience helping to build and ensure compliance in labs across many different states, counties, and townships. This experience is critical: it allows us to know the precise questions to ask your local authorities to ensure your new lab is compliant with all regulations specific to your location, including lab operations, safety, and hazardous waste disposal.

What skills are most important when hiring lab staff for a clinic setting?

An in-office pathology lab requires staff who are versatile and capable of handling tasks beyond just technical work. At least one histotech is always necessary. Since histotechs are in short supply, finding that special individual who will do their best work for your patients is paramount.

If additional support is needed beyond the primary histotech, EMVE Sciences can offer suggestions on other ways to secure the help you require if finding another skilled histotech proves difficult.
